SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim; book by Hugh Wheeler; from an adaptation by Christopher Bond
Originally directed on Broadway by Harold Prince; Orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick; Originally Produced on Broadway by Richard Barr, Charles Woodward, Robert Fryer, Mary Lea Johnson, Martin Richards in association with Dean and Judy Manos
A 19th-century barber embarks on a murderous rampage in Sweeney Todd, the tasty musical thriller from creators Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler. Bent on revenge, Sweeney Todd returns to London, renting a room over Mrs. Lovett, the proprietress of a struggling pie shop. Realizing Todd’s thirst for blood extends beyond the judge who framed him, Mrs. Lovett seizes the opportunity to use his unfortunate victims as special ingredients, transforming her pies from inedible to delectable.
In collaboration with the Texas Tech School of Music’s Opera Theatre and University Symphony Orchestra, Sweeney Todd is sure to simultaneously shock, awe, and delight audiences with some of the most chilling music ever written for the stage.
Sweeney Todd is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. www.mtishows.com
