HUNTER MARZE: “The Day the Music Died”
MFA Lecture
Hunter Marze explores the intersections of craft, transformation, and the natural world. Rooted in the Mingei and Leach pottery philosophies, Marze’s work emerges from reverence for humble, handmade objects toward a contemporary language of metamorphosis where insects, vessels, and makers intertwine. Referencing Don McLean’s The Day the Music Died, Marze reflects on the transformation of his practice at Texas Tech. Through pottery, ceramic sculpture, and prints, he investigates the intersects of craft and nature, positioning making as a form of transformation and renewal.
