An Evening Celebrating the Music of Gordon Lightfoot with Eric Elison

“My mom trained as an Opera Singer, and we always had music around the home. I frequently sang along to recordings of all the great musicals, Oklahoma!, South Pacific, Camelot, and the King and I. Some of my favorite albums growing up were: Sing Along With Mitch (Mitch Miller), and Nelson Eddy’s “Stout Hearted Men.” When I attended High School, I listened to James Taylor, Jim Croce, John Denver, and yes Gordon Lightfoot. I was taken with Gordon Lightfoot’s incredible songwriting and vocals.” – Eric Elison

He attended the University of Florida, began playing at clubs and coffee shops in Gainesville. Gordon Lightfoot was one of the artists whose songs he played frequently (along with Jimmy Buffett, Jackson Browne, Dan Fogelberg and JJ Cale). After graduation, Eric attended Flight Training at Naval Air Station Pensacola, and flew aircraft for the US Navy. Throughout this time, he continued to play and sing. Lightfoot fans will be pleased to know that Eric played Gordon Lightfoot’s songs for his fellow squadron mates in Antarctica!

Fast forward to 2017, when Eric became a full-time singer-songwriter. He recorded his first project, an EP titled Westside Cafe. A few weeks after the project was finished, his producer called and remarked about how much Eric sounded like Gordon Lightfoot. This producer and others around Nashville, thought he should become a Gordon Lightfoot tribute artist…and the rest is history, as they say. He took their advice because he has always loved Gordon Lightfoot’s music, and it’s his belief that audiences around the world should have the opportunity to hear Gord’s songs performed live (once again).”
