Open Position at LHUCA: Full-Time Curator

LHUCA is seeking a motivated individual actively engaged in contemporary art research, writing, or practices. S/he/they should be community-minded and have a passion for museum education and outreach. This person should thrive in a fast paced, collaborative work environment. LHUCA Curator is responsible for daily operations of the LHUCA Galleries. This position develops, manages, and oversees all activities in the galleries including curating, scheduling, and installing all exhibitions and educational programs related to exhibitions.

About LHUCA:
LHUCA is a non-profit center for the visual, performing and literary arts located in the heart of the
Lubbock Cultural District. This year, we will celebrate our 24th anniversary as an arts organization. Our
mission is to cultivate and celebrate all the arts by inspiring creativity and engaging with the community.
LHUCA’s main building houses four fine art gallery spaces that are free and open to the public. Concert,
dance, theatrical and film programs are held in our 159-seat Firehouse Theatre. In addition, our campus
includes an education building, plaza, multipurpose building, and clay studio. Each year, over 55,000
people benefit from LHUCA’s programs and services.

Job Duties:
LHUCA Curator is responsible for daily operations of the LHUCA Galleries. This position develops,
manages, and oversees all activities in the galleries including curating, scheduling, and installing all
exhibitions and educational programs related to exhibitions.
• Curate, design, and schedule exhibitions in LHUCA’s four gallery spaces.
• Plan and create programs and events that correspond with exhibitions and visual art
programming at LHUCA including artist talks, art history lectures, gallery tours, and receptions.
• Install and de-install artwork in galleries including hanging two-dimensional works, positioning
three-dimensional works, adjusting lights by ladder or scissor lift, connecting AV aspects of
exhibitions, and installing exhibition vinyl and labels.
• Work with marketing staff to publicize and promote all exhibition activities via social media,
press releases, and e-newsletters.
• Interview and hire part-time Exhibition Assistant(s) and interns.
• Schedule and supervise assistants and interns during exhibition installation and de-installation.
• Work with the Executive Director and Development Director to develop annual exhibitions
budget.
• Manage annual exhibitions budget and track expenses for grant reporting.
• Work with the Executive Director, Programs Manager, and other staff to implement
collaborative programming.
• Attend monthly board meetings and report on gallery activities.

Qualifications:

practices. S/he/they should be community-minded and have a passion for museum education and
outreach. This person should thrive in a fast paced, collaborative work environment.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Art History, Arts Management, Museum Studies, Visual Art, or
related field
• Experience in managing exhibitions, installing shows, and shipping artwork
• Knowledge of contemporary art and current museum curatorial practices
• Proficient in with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Experience using social media as promotional tool
• Ability to manage budgets, supplies, and scheduling
• Organized and detail-oriented
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team
• Ability to work calmly under pressure and within deadlines
• Leadership or personnel management experience
• Supportive of the mission of LHUCA

Compensation:
Starting salary Range: $38,000 – $42,000 (depending on experience). Benefits package includes vacation
and sick pay, health insurance, and employer match retirement plan.
