About Lubbock Community Theatre:

Lubbock Community Theatre (LCT) is a vibrant and inclusive community theater dedicated to providing outstanding theatrical experiences to the Lubbock community. LCT produces a diverse range of plays and musicals, engaging both seasoned and aspiring actors, directors, and designers. As the Costume Shop Manager at LCT, you will be a key part of our team by helping to manage and maintain our costume shop, workroom and dressing areas.

Job Description:

Position Overview: The Costume Shop Manager at Lubbock Community Theatre is responsible for the coordination and management of the costume shop, workshop, dressing rooms and rental program. This role requires a deep passion for costuming, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate with diverse groups of volunteers and professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Inventory and Maintenance:
    • Maintain a well-organized costume stock, keeping track of costumes, accessories, and fabrics.
    • Conduct regular inventory assessments, repair damaged items, and replace missing or worn-out costumes as needed.
    • Ensure all costumes are clean, in good repair, and properly stored between productions.
  2. Costume Rentals, Productions and Sourcing:
    • Coordinate costume shop needs for designers and production crew needs.
    • Handle rentals and outreach. This includes communication, outreach, inventory, and filing.
  3. Team Management:
    • Recruit, train, and supervise costume volunteers.
    • Create schedules and assign tasks to volunteers, fostering a collaborative and creative working environment.
    • Provide guidance and mentorship to those interested in learning about costuming.
  4. Production Support & Education:
    • Attend production meetings to help support Costumer Designer and answer questions about resources and abilities as needed.
    • Maintain workspace and enforce protocols, such as cleanliness and organization. There can be multiple shows at one time utilizing our space so its important to help facilitate various artists coming in to use the workshop.
    • Help Mentor Stages Academy children interested in costuming.
  5. Costume Records and Documentation:
    • Develop and implement an inventory system of items with a database. (Long Term Goals)
    • Help archive and document the goings on behind the scenes of costuming for LCT for marketing and archival purposes.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in costume design and construction for theatrical productions.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with volunteers, actors, and directors.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and adaptability in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Familiarity with costume shop equipment and sewing machines is a plus.
