In this issue, we will celebrate artists whose work is deeply rooted in their community, showcasing how local practices can spark broader conversations and impact.⁠ We’re interested in hyperlocal artistic traditions, micro-pockets of art activity, networks of influence and inspiration, locally derived materials, and more.

Open Call for Article Pitches

Deadline: October 25.

Who: Writers based in or with close ties to Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Texas, and northern Mexico.

What: Features, interviews, artist profiles, essays, cultural criticism, reviews, and other text-based works.

Open Call for Artists

Deadline: November 1.

Guest juror: Jaime Herrell (Cherokee Nation, European), associate curator, Ballroom Marfa.

Who: Artists living and working in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Texas, and northern Mexico.

Information session: This Thursday, October 17, 1 pm MDT, the SWC editorial team is hosting a casual info session via Zoom to talk about the theme of the Hyperlocal, detail the artist submission process, and answer questions. Folks can register here to attend.
