37th National Arts Program at Lubbock
The City of Lubbock is celebrating our 37th year of participation in the National Arts Program. The National Arts Program at Lubbock is an annual exhibit to highlight the works of City of Lubbock employees and their families, retirees, volunteers, and previous Garden and Arts Center exhibitors. This show is comprised of art from all ages and levels of ability. Each piece of artwork will be judged within its classification, not based on its medium. Each artist selects the classification in which their work will be judged.

Eligibility
- Participants must be an employee, volunteer, retiree, an immediate family member of an employee of the City of Lubbock, or previous GAC exhibitor.
- All entries submitted must be the original work of the applicant completed within the last three years. Not accepted: kits; paint-by-number pieces; photocopies or photographs of artwork; magazine or book illustrations, random snapshots.
- The National Arts Program and the City of Lubbock reserve the right to disqualify entries they consider to be unacceptable or inappropriate for a public exhibit.
- If you qualify from volunteering in a City of Lubbock event or as a previous GAC exhibitor, here is how to register for the National Arts Program:
- In the Eligibility Section, please select the appropriate option you classify as (City of Lubbock Employee, Retiree, Volunteer, etc.)
- In the Employee Information, please put down the following:
- First Name: Garden
- Last Name: Arts
- Department: Cultural Arts
- Position: Garden and Arts Center Assistant

Medium Categories
- A. Painting (oils, acrylics, etc.)
- B. Works on Paper (pencil, ink, marker, charcoal, pastel, crayon, watercolors, graphic design, etc.)
- C. Photography (black-and-white; color)
- D. Sculpture (in the round or relief)
- E. Craft (mixed media, pottery, jewelry, woodcarving, weaving, etc.)
- F. Mixed Media (work of visual art that combines more than one medium
The 5 NAP Classifications
- Professional: a person with serious art training or employed in an art related field
- Intermediate: a person with some experience, they may have taken a few art classes
- Amateur: a person with little or no experience in the arts
- Teen 13 to 18 years of age
- Youth 12 years and under
Award Distribution
- Professional First-$350 Second-$250 Third-$150
- Intermediate First-$350 Second-$250 Third-$150
- Amateur First-$350 Second-$250 Third-$150
- Teen 13-18 First-$150 Second-$100 Third-$50
- Youth 12 and Under First-$150 Second-$100 Third-$50
- Best of Show – (1) of $400
Art Education Award:
- (1) Teen or Youth of $200 (recipient will receive funds direct from the NAP)
- Award is to be used as payment for any visual arts class, training from an instructor, or art materials that will help further their art education or practice. The winner may not be the recipient of any additional awards.
Entry Preparations
- Submit only entries which fit into the listed medium categories.
- All artwork will need an NAP identification label placed on the back (provided at drop off).
- All 2-dimensional entries should be matted, framed and/or ready to hang with wire securely on the back.
- All work must measure no more than 48″ in any direction or weigh more than 50 lbs unless otherwise stipulated.
- Artwork that does not meet size limitations or specifications will be disqualified before judging.
