Earlier this summer, a Texas Christian University football recruiting coordinator made a tweet calling out Texas Tech University for “attempting to ‘build their brand’ in a desert” with the tweet including a cactus emoji. This dig at the University was in response to Lubbock Matador Club pledging $25,000 contracts for 100 Texas Tech football players.   In typical red raider fashion, Twitter was set ablaze by Red Raider Nation, including many Texas Tech and Lubbock figures, alumni, and supporters responding with their own lighthearted tweets, most of which including the cactus emoji or images of cacti. In the weeks since, the cactus has become fixture within the Red Raider community, with cactus T-shirts, hats, stickers, logos, even entire Cacti Collections, and more being creating, all while building anticipation to the November 5 football game against TCU.

It is a rare and unique occurrence when art can be connected to sports. The Museum of Texas Tech University did not want to miss the opportunity to participate and support Tech athletics while also featuring artists from the ‘desert.’

The parameters for all artworks are as follows:

1. 24″ x 30″ height (can be smaller or grouping of pieces that fit those dimensions)
2. 2D work is preferred but we can offer some limited 3D options
3. Artwork must be ready to hang (any type of framing is acceptable)
4. Artist must transport artwork.
5. Will need the following info upon delivery to the Museum: Artist name, Title of work, Medium, and Date

All artworks will need a completed Museum loan form.  This form information will include personal contact information, name of work, and insurance value. This form can be signed upon delivery or forwarded in advance. The Museum will email all participating parties. All artworks are insured while on site at the Museum.
