Texas Tech School of Art is bringing in an artist-in-residence Tonja Torgerson (Lecturer, Indiana University at Bloomington) during February 27-March 4. She will be wheat-pasting and installing her prints in the space of 806 Collective at CASP studio C. We are inviting you to join Tonja’s screenprinting workshop to print her botanical and bug motifs related to her theme and visit her installation in progress. All materials and technical help are provided. Bring an apron or work clothes! Sign up below to secure your spot.

Tonja Torgerson’s work is about vulnerability, death, and the impermanence of the body. She uses prints, cut paper, and collage to create life-size figures to recognize their mortality–the frailty of the body, allowing us to dwell on uncomfortable truths. In collaboration with Texas Tech Printmaking Program and 806 Collective, Torgerson works in large format murals, using wheat-pasted screenprints. During her artist residency, the artist will work with local high school students, community participants, and our SOA students to create expansive murals to be installed in the CASP studio C and the outside walls around CASP studios buildings. We are hoping this project helps uplift the spirit and for healing around the CASP studio community. Students will learn how to work on site through wheat-pasting of prints.
