Artist lectures continue on Friday with artist Clayton Salley

Clayton Salley is an MFA candidate and instructor studying Jewelry and Metal Arts with Professor Kee-ho Yuen at the University of Iowa. Salley’s work has been showcased in notable international and national exhibitions, including “Refined 2023,” juried by Frankie Flood and the Society of North American Goldsmith’s “2022 Annual Juried Student Exhibition” in Rhode Island. Salley previously studied conceptual art jewelry and traditional metalsmithing with Professor Robly Glover and Professor Nancy Slagle in Lubbock, Texas. Currently, Salley is exploring the integration of advanced technology into his art practice.

Mindy Herrin-Lewis is a figurative artist, metalsmith, and faculty member at East Tennessee State University. She received her BFA from Texas Tech University 1998 and her MFA from Indiana University 2002. Mindy teaches all levels of metalsmithing courses as well as Figure Sculpture and Figure Drawing. She has a national exhibition record and was chosen Art Jewelry Forum’s Emerging Artist 2002. Recent accomplishments include Tennessee Craft: A Statewide Member Exhibition 2023, 31st Annual Emerald Coast National, Alchemy6 – Second Place Jewelry, Cell Full/Filled: Cloisonné at Voice, Materials Hard + Soft 2022, Creative Cloisonné Workshop – Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts, Best of Tennessee Craft Exhibition 2022, Confluence: A Visual Discourse of US Academic Art Jewelers 2021, No Bigger than a Breadbox: Biennial Small Works Show – Best in Show 2021, DownEast National Indoor Sculpture Exhibition – First Place 2021, Presenter – Radford University 2020, Solo Exhibition – Pellissippi State Community College 2020, Presenter – East Carolina Metals Symposium 2019, Presenter – 2018 Yuma Symposium, Hunter Museum Invitational 2018, Folk Fiction 2017 – Murray State University, Best of Tennessee Craft – Third Place 2016, 2015 Dogwood Regional Fine Art Exhibition – Award of Merit, Materials: Hard and Soft 2015 – Juror Award, 57th Mid-States Art Exhibition – Juror Award 2014, Southeastern College Arts Conference 2012 Juried Exhibition – Best in Show , and work included 500 Brooches – Lark Books.
