Los Hermanos Familia University Scholarship Accepting Applications for their Partners & Advocate 2024-25 Fall/Spring Scholarships

Los Hermanos Familia, a 501 is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that serves as an organization committed to “STRENGTHENING FAMILIES, BUILDING COMMUNITY.”

In partnership with area universities and private contributors including Lubbock Christian University, Wayland Baptist University, Texas Tech Alumni Association, Rosa & Julio Llanas, Christy Martinez & Frank Garcia, Amaris Garcia, Josh & Jessica Ortiz, Starcare – is awarding scholarships to college and high school students enrolled or planning to attend college.

Disadvantaged students must be first-generation, current college students, or a 2024 High School Graduate.

Scholarship Amount: (35) $1,000

Recipients will be notified by Oct. 18; A reception will be held on Nov. 21st. A special thanks to Glasheen, Valles, and Inderman Law Firm. The keynote will be Noe Valles.

LOS HERMANOS FAMILIA (LHF) is an organization increasing the habitus for area families by fostering an environment that offers them more exploration, and thus knowledge, life experiences, and new opportunities, including in education. LHF was founded by Lubbockite, Christy Martinez-Garcia. She formed Los Hermanos Familia after a last request to go fishing with the entire family by an area farmer who was also her father-in-law.

As a farmer, he often missed family gatherings due to work and farming requirements. The request was filled by Christy and her husband Frank Garcia along with a collection of their friends and organization in 2008. Today, LHF has created a movement that addresses the needs of families in the community through its fishing events, programs, and initiatives.
