Opening May 29 and on view through July 26, 2026, Illuminance is a national competitive photography exhibition presented by the Fine Arts Program at the Buddy Holly Center. The exhibition is dedicated to promoting contemporary visual arts and expanding educational programming through the lens of photography.

This year’s theme, “Darkness After Light,” invites photographers from across the country to explore the transition from light into shadow and the emotions that arise within that space—from mystery and tension to calm and quiet serenity. Featuring a wide range of photographic methods and processes, the exhibition demonstrates how darkness can deepen narrative and spark the viewer’s imagination.

The 2026 exhibition is juried by Steve Goff, a retired Professor and former Head of Photography at Odessa College, where he taught for more than four decades. Goff holds both a B.F.A. and M.F.A. from Ohio University and has received fellowships from the Ohio Arts Council and the Mid-America Arts Alliance/National Endowment for the Arts. He was named the 2025 Honored Educator by the Society for Photographic Education South Central Region and currently serves as President of the Texas Photographic Society.

An opening reception will be held on May 29, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. During the event, Goff will announce award winners, present honors, and offer a juror-led gallery talk
