Social Media & Marketing Intern

Position Title: LEDA Social Media & Marketing Intern
Location: 1500 Broadway Lubbock, Texas 79401
Position Classification: Hourly (Up to 20 hours a week, some weekend work required) – PAID
Duration: 2024 Fall Semester

Position Reports to: Director of Marketing & Communication

Position Purpose
LEDA is seeking a creative and driven social media and marketing intern to join our dynamic marketing team. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in social media management, content creation, digital marketing strategies, brand development and blog and copywriting. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about social media trends, possess strong communication skills, have a passion for marketing and be eager to learn!
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
- Social Media Management: Assists with the development and implementation of posts on the following social media platforms for LEDA:
- Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, Threads, LinkedIn and TikTok.
- Content Creation: Capture and create engaging and visually appealing content, including graphics, videos, photos and written posts, that align with our brand’s voice and strategy. (This includes photo and video editing)
- Community Engagement: Monitor and engage with our online community, responding to comments, messages and inquiries promptly and professionally.
- Blog and Copywriting: Write and edit blog posts, articles and other marketing copy to support content marketing efforts and enhance SEO.
- Website Maintenance: Help update LEDA’s website’s calendar of events, jobs page, photos and other general data.
- Analytics and Reporting: Track and analyze social media performance metrics using tools like Google Analytics and Sprout Social. Provide insights and recommendations for improvement.
- Market Research: Conduct research on social media trends, competitor activities, local news and audience preferences to inform content strategy and marketing efforts.
- Performs other duties as assigned: Assist with front desk management.
Qualifications
Education/Certification: Anticipating a bachelor’s degree in public relations, advertising, marketing, mass communications or similar field.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of major social media platforms and their best practices. (i.e. Facebook, X, YouTube, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, LinkedIn)
- Knowledge of AP style and the ability to write clear, concise and error-free copy.
- Creative mindset with the ability to produce engaging and original content.
- Basic understanding of graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Illustrator), video editing softwares (e.g., CapCut, Adobe Premiere) and photo editing softwares (e.g., Photoshop, Lightroom).
- Experience in shooting and editing videos and photos for digital content.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work various hours, including nights and weekends.
- Positive attitude, willingness to learn and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Familiarity with the local area.
