EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY IN THE LCD

Library Director | City of Lubbock

Lubbock, Texas Seeks Library Director

Lubbock, known as “The Hub City,” is situated at the center of the scenic South Plains, between the Permian Basin and Texas Panhandle. The City is home to more than 265,000 residents who enjoy the area’s mild climate, beautiful sunsets, and a wide range of recreational and cultural amenities. Lubbock provides a high quality of life that combines the art, leisure, and entertainment opportunities of a major metropolitan area with the friendly hospitality and charm of a small community.

The Library Director plans and manages operations and activities required to provide an effective library system to the Lubbock community. This position offers professional library and research services and supervises the daily operations of the library and its collections. This includes ensuring that patrons are served efficiently and effectively, library materials are current and accessible, and department policies and procedures reflect the latest best practices.

The City of Lubbock seeks an energetic, resourceful, and customer-focused professional to lead an exceptional team delivering library services to a diverse and supportive community. This is a highly dynamic, visible position that directly communicates with board members, Friends of the Library, and library patrons on a continual basis. The ideal candidate believes in the mission of libraries and has the technical and analytical skills necessary to help the department plan and achieve its goals. The new director will be actively invested in the City of Lubbock — visible, approachable, and accessible within the libraries and community. They will need excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills and will understand how to be politically savvy without becoming political. The successful candidate should be able to empower, coach and engage library personnel and create a collaborative team environment.

This position requires a master’s degree in library science or a closely related field and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in a moderately sized library system. Experience working in local government, with boards and commissions, and as a library manager or director is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills will be considered. Please note that the successful candidate will be required to live within the City of Lubbock.

The City of Lubbock is offering a salary range of $97,429 to $154,733 for this position, depending on qualifications and experience.
