POSITION: Education and Outreach Manager
Position Summary: Seeking a planter of seeds, an igniter of imagination, a creative mind with a great work ethic, who desires to educate the next generation about the importance of agriculture. This person will lead existing programming and create new
educational experiences for youth and adults.
1. Responsible for developing activities and content that aligns with Texas Essential
Knowledge & Skills (TEKS), specifically 4th grade and under, utilizing FiberMax exhibits,
including new AgWorks Literacy Gallery and Cotton Heritage Center, opening late 2024.
2. Promotes educational programming and builds relationships with local school districts.
Using knowledge and experience from ongoing interactions, fine-tunes educational
programs for maximum impact.
3. Coordinates educational tours, including scheduling volunteers, planning
activities/crafts, and managing tour rotations.
4. Oversees and plans H-E-B Family Nights, a free educational program offered once a
month, highlighting different sectors of the agricultural industry.
5. Responsible for creating monthly DIY activities/packets for visitors in the Story Barn.
6. Participates in grant writing and fund development in support of educational programs.
Tracks and reports program data.
7. Collaborates with local FFA and 4-H on programs and volunteer opportunities.
8. Works with Communications Coordinator to develop educational content for social
media.
9. Identifies and suggests appropriate educational items for Grace’s General Store.
10. Based in new education wing, will be responsible for opening, closing, and maintaining
educational exhibits and spaces.
11. Responsible for scheduling staff/volunteers and managing event rentals in classroom
and corral area, including birthday parties, school groups, and other youth-related
events as needed.
12. Works closely with FiberMax team to carry out promotional and fundraising events that
support the mission of the FiberMax Center for Discovery.
13. Works with Executive Director to assign work and manage intern staff.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
Skill Requirements and Qualifications:
• Experience and/or knowledge of agriculture is a plus
• A college degree is required
• 4-6 years of experience in a professional setting preferred
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills required, as this position will
develop curriculum and programming, working closely with teachers,
administrators, and parents
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail required
• Experience teaching and/or leading lessons and educational activities preferred
• Ability to command attention and take the lead with students and teachers
• A positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills
• Ability to work effectively with diverse staff, visitors, and volunteers
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Working Conditions:
Duties are primarily performed in an office environment at a desk or computer terminal, typically, Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm, with some evenings and weekends.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time and the ability to manage repetitive
hand/wrist movements while using a computer keyboard and/or phone
• Ability to bend, squat, and stoop
• Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs
Benefits:
