POSITION OVERVIEW
The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, the premier arts organization in Lubbock, Texas, has seen tremendous growth in artistry and audience over the last 10 years. Music Director and Conductor David Cho creates programs of the highest artistic caliber in collaboration with the LSO’s outstanding musicians.
The Director of Development is charged with the primary responsibility of managing and implementing the organization’s development plan. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and understanding of the donor relationship lifecycle and how the development process fits within other organizational objectives. This position is responsible for planning, execution, control, and evaluation of fundraising and outreach for the organization. Additionally, the position is the primary staff liaison to the Board of Directors and will assist the Board Chair in planning meetings and board-related events. The Development Director will work closely with the President & CEO, the Board, and fundraising volunteers to enhance and support the overall mission of the Lubbock Symphony, and to assure that ample unrestricted and programs funds are generated. The position is salaried with accompanying benefits in accordance with the LSO Employee Handbook.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Development Director is responsible for fund development for:
- Operating Support, including individual gifts, sponsorships, and grants
- Major Projects, including new programs and collaborative ventures
- Future Capital Campaigns including headquarters maintenance, remodeling and equipment acquisition and upgrades
- Endowment Funds
Additional duties will include:
- Ensuring excellent stewardship of donations and grants
- Grants management and reporting to granting foundations
- Acting as Board Liaison for LSO staff, communicating frequently with the Board regarding LSO news, fundraising trends, and assisting in the preparation of meetings and board-related events
- Leading the preparation of fundraising events each year
- Reporting fundraising progress to the board at regular meetings and when requested
- With assistance of the Marketing Director and Graphic Designer, generation of print materials and online (social media, email, web site, etc.) information to garner support among existing and new markets
- Maintain current concert and event sponsorships while also soliciting new sponsorships
- Maintaining donor information in the LSO database and generating reports as needed
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
- Three years of demonstrated experience in development for a non-profit organization
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Skill at appointment-setting and closing of gifts
- Knowledge of the fundraising environment of Lubbock and West Texas
- Grant writing and grants management experience preferred
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
Salary: Competitive, based on experience and qualifications.
