CLIP is an international exhibition of works on paper, which aims to showcase exceptional contemporary art made on &/or with paper. The exhibition is juried by Ghislaine Fremaux, Assistant Professor of Painting at Texas Tech University and artist-in-residence at the Charles Adams Studio Project, with numerous one-woman, group, museum & gallery exhibitions to her credit. CLIP will open on September 6, 2019, during First Friday Art Trail, at the 5&J Gallery in Lubbock, Texas.

Applicants will be notified by email of their acceptance by the end of the day July 26, 2019.
Artwork Due Date
Artwork will be due, ready-to-exhibit, by August 26, 2019. Please arrange for work to arrive at the gallery, whether shipped or hand-delivered, within the window of August 19, 2019 through August 26, 2019. Shipping & delivery information will be shared with accepted artists with notification of acceptance email.
Opening of Exhibition
Exhibition will open September 6, 2019, at 6pm. Juror talk & awards given at 8pm.

Juror | Ghislaine Fremaux
Ghislaine Fremaux is Assistant Professor of Art in Painting at Texas Tech University. She holds her MFA from the Pennsylvania State University, conferred in 2012, and her BFA from Tufts University with SMFA, Boston. Her large pastel drawings investigate problems of the body pertaining to skin, intimacy, and the gaze. Fremaux has exhibited inter/nationally, and has worked with such curators as Omar Lopez-Chahoud, Ingrid Schaffner, Carter E. Foster, Jane Panetta, and Katie Pfohl. Current projects examine the aging body, social nudism, and the medical imaging procedure of endoscopy.
CLIP is open to artists living & working in the world. Artists will be selected on the basis of the works entered. Works completed before 2016 should not be entered.
Eligibility & Media
- All work must be on or of paper.
- Original 2D or 3D work in any media, including watercolor, pastels, charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, pen & ink, gouache, acrylic, paper sculpture, alternative or darkroom photographic processes (including hand-coated cyanotypes, VanDyke prints, Polariod emulsion lifts, etc), collage, drawing, book arts, & all hand-pulled printmaking processes are eligible. [Strictly digital artwork is ineligible, including computer artwork, digital photography, etc.]
- All work should not exceed 90” in the longest dimension.
- All work must hang on a wall, be freestanding, or the artist must provide shelves. There will be no pedestals for this exhibition.
- All work must be original, & produced within the last two years.
- The digital image of the piece submitted on CaFE must be the piece delivered to CASP, if selected by the juror. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- Artwork may be sent framed or unframed.
- Framed artwork: must be ready-to-install, with a wire on the back.
- Unframed artwork: CASP will provide black clips & clear pushpins, unless the artist provides another installation option. If artist wants their work installed with pushpins only, they must provide detailed instructions.
- ABSOLUTELY NO MAGNETS, no exceptions.
You may enter work with the understanding that the Charles Adams Studio Project exhibition venue & format of events may not be able to accommodate all work. If you have a question about whether your work can be accommodated—artwork exceeding the maximum in any direction, artwork being installed outdoors, or artwork not installed on the walls—please only contact Victoria Marie Bee at [email protected] This work will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
There is a $25 application fee for an entry of 1-3 artworks. Application fees are nonrefundable.
If you work both individually & collaboratively, you may enter both as an individual, & as part of your team(s). You may submit as many applications (each application 1-3 artworks) as you wish; however, you must pay the $25 application fee for each application.
Cash Prizes to be presented by the juror during First Friday Art Trail, September 7, 2019, at 8pm.
Insurance & Liability
Charles Adams Studio Project does not insure work at the gallery or during transit to/from the gallery. Artists exhibit their work at their own risk. Charles Adams Studio Project will treat artwork with the same care provided similar property of its own. Evidence of damage to objects at the time of receipt or while in the gallery’s custody will be reported immediately to the artist. No alteration, restoration, or repair of objects will be undertaken without the artist’s written permission. The artist certifies in the loan agreement upon acceptance, that the artwork is in good condition and will withstand ordinary strains of packing, shipping, and being displayed for a period of time.
Shipping & Installation Requirements
Accepted artists are responsible to shipping work to & from the gallery. CASP will not assume responsibility for work improperly framed or poorly packaged for shipping. CASP will not pay for shipping either direction. Shipping & delivery instructions will be emailed following the juror process. Artwork should be ready to install, “exhibition-ready” with hardware installed that will allow for immediate installation by the gallery with no adjustments to the pieces necessary. ARTWORK MUST HAVE HARDWARE INSTALLED FOR IMMEDIATE INSTALLATION, unless you are using CASP’s black clips and clear pushpins.
Artists will be required to complete a loan agreement, before acceptance of a work is final.
Reproductions & Publicity
By entering your work & providing images (& other documentation), you agree that any images & other materials you provide may be reproduced & published in promotional & press materials, & distributed via the websites & social media channels of Charles Adams Studio Project. You also agree that images of your work may be reproduced in the context of the exhibition, & its promotion by third parties such as journalists. Artists always retain the rights to their artwork, & images of it. Additional information or images could be requested of specific accepted artists.
