“High and Dry: A Photographic Exhibition of Peoples and Places of the World’s Dry Lands”

Since 2000, the Office of International Affairs at Texas Tech University has curated the premiere juried photographic exhibition of peoples and places of the world’s dry lands.  The High and Dry Exhibition has attracted hundreds of artists across the globe, all of whom were asked to respond to some aspect of life in an arid or a semi-arid region. Subjects range from sand dunes in the Sahara Desert to ghost towns in Terlingua, Texas. It is our hope that these images will not only prompt aesthetic appreciation but also elicit reflection upon the realities of life on our increasingly thirsty planet.

Eligibility: Open to all photographers, both amateur and professional

Deadline: October 1, 2022

Photographers of all levels are invited to submit work reflecting the dry lands theme for twentieth anniversary of this juried exhibition. The choice of subject (people, animals, or landscapes) is up to the photographer, but the image must indicate a connection to arid or semi-arid lands to be considered for juror selection. Approximately 70 images will be selected for exhibition and shown in the galleries of Texas Tech University’s International Cultural Center from December 2022 to January 2023.

Juror: Peter Poulides

The Texas Tech Office of International Affairs is honored to have Peter Poulides as the juror for the 22nd Annual High and Dry photography competition. Peter is the founder and executive director of the Dallas Center for Photography. (https://dallascenterforphotography.org/)
