Exhale: A Night of Art, Expression, & Healing
RISE | Texas Tech University

Deadline: Friday, March 25th

Texas Tech’s Risk Intervention and Safety Education, RISE department is sending out a call for original visual and performance art for an event and exhibition for sexual assault survivors.

This event will be held on April 1st from 2:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m. at the newly renovated Dairy Barn Loft in central campus. There will be snacks and refreshments but the highlights of the event will be the opportunity to watch performance and visual art submissions while enjoying a safe environment for survivors and supporters of survivors of sexual assault. This is one of the several events that will be hosted during SAAM, Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

There may be additional exhibition opportunities for visual art submitted at either the Texas Tech Museum or at the First Friday Art Trail in May. If you would like to have your art displayed at the additional exhibition just indicate it on the following form. There will be more information as we secure the additional exhibition.

Participants are encouraged to submit any type of expressive artwork that depicts their journey and/or experience with sexual assault or expressing their support for survivors. (Note: This exhibition is NOT only limited to TTU students even though it is hosted by a department at TTU) Please complete this form to submit your work to this exhibition/event.

Artworks can include: (Please be advised that loose glitter is not allowed due to the venue’s precautions)
– drawings (digital/physical)
– paintings
– photography
– sculpture
– printmaking
– video
– jewelry/metals
– ceramics
– installation
– etc.

Performance works can include:
– dance
– slam poetry
– short stories/prose
– song (musical instruments/vocals)
– acting
– etc.

On April 1st, there will also be time toward the end of the event for a more open-mic style of sharing for anyone who does not pre-submit. Pre-submissions are still highly encouraged so we can ensure there is time for everyone who would like to share.

Deadline for submissions is March 25th, 2022. Visual works will need to be fully completed and ready to hang or display by March 28th and will need to be brought to the RISE office in Drane Hall 2nd floor office 247. For any questions regarding the exhibition or event, please email [email protected] or [email protected] at RISE.

We recognize that sexual assault and the emotions that come with supporting survivors, healing, and growing from these experiences are complex and come in many shapes and sizes. Our goal with Exhale is to create a safe space in hopes that participants can find support through community and through their creative outlets.
