CALL FOR ART

Deadline for submission: January 25, 2022

Show opening: February 11, 2022
East Lubbock Art House

The Humanities Center at Texas Tech and East Lubbock Art House are calling for original visual art, for a juried exhibition on the Humanities Center’s 2021-2022 theme: Anti-Racism. The exhibition will open with a reception on February 11, 2022 at East Lubbock Art House (405 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Suite. We will announce a juror’s prize of 1000 dollars for one artwork in the exhibition at that event. We are seeking art that responds to the Humanities Center’s Anti-Racism theme. As recurring overt manifestations of racism undercut the fiction that America is a “post-racial” society, many are working to challenge racism in both public and academic contexts: the Movement for Black Lives and the Stop AAPI Hate coalition; initiatives like Academics for Black Survival and Wellness; popular literature on anti-racism; educators developing anti-racist pedagogy; and scholarship focused on contemporary manifestations of racism such as the Prison Industrial Complex, the Immigration Industrial Complex, policing, control of borders/movement, linguistic racism, and anti-immigrant legislation. Accordingly, we seek works that respond to these energies, represent their challenges to racism, and/or imagine means for anti-racist redress.Art media can include 2D work in painting, photography, printmaking, drawing, video, and 3D work in sculpture, ceramics, jewelry/metals, and installation. 2D work may not exceed 60×60 inches in size. 3D work may not exceed a 48×48 inch footprint with a maximum height of 96 inches.

Deadline for submissions is January 25, 2022.
