The concert and fundraiser aims to raise money for a memorial scholarship and “to stress the importance of a college education and bring awareness to organ donation.”

Rascal – gives you this mental image of a huge ornery grin doesn’t it? Well that describes him perfectly. With gorgeous blue eyes, usually a stain or two and dog hair (or pig hair) to boot. You never saw him without his boots, cars or cowboy hat. He was a vivacious little boy, who didn’t realize he was NOT 10ft tall and bullet proof. He had a way about him that he always left you smiling. Brock “Rascal” Riemath was a whirlwind in all of our lives and everyone knew when he was around. He loved to hang with his potbellied pig “Snarkle” -self named of course – and then go tear up the dirt with big brother “thumper” riding bulls and clinging to chutes. He had it made when it came to mama Kia – that’s for sure. He had everyone wrapped around that ornery stinking finger. You never expect to lose such a vibrant soul. But unexpectedly we lost him in June 1997. He stepped from the back of our pick up – trying to get his baseball cap. After the amazing work of EMT’s he was Air lifted to UMC, they were able to stabilize him and began recovery. They were getting ready to release him for home. The final day he sat up and coughed, he laid back and the excess fluid filled his brain stem and it herniated, he was gone. In a blur of days, we held tight as a family. Thankful for Life gift, blessing his wishes, rascal saved 9 people by donating his organs. Knowing he saved 9 people is beyond comparable to a single word. His spirit lives on. In the coming years we closely worked with Life Gift and local groups to spread the word for organ donation. We are blessed to say that 17 years later – we still have 8 of the 9 living! They carry him as well as we do- So now any time we hear George straits “carrying your love with me” or see a green ribbon – we know he’s with us. WE want to use this as a blessing and extra encouragement for a student that truly needs the help to gain additional education. In my family’s opinion that allows his spirit to cross that finish line and gain that accomplishment as well. We’ve been blessed to see that milestone crossed!

Registration for the scholarship opens after the event. Students who are interested in the scholarship contest can ask for the email and send their registration, information forms and essay. Search Brock “Rascal” Riemath Memorial Scholarship on Facebook.
