The 39 Steps is a parody adapted from the 1915 novel by John Buchan and the 1935 film by Alfred Hitchcock. The original concept and production of a four-actor version was by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon. Patrick Barlow rewrote this adaptation in 2005.

Auditions: Thursday and Friday, November 18, 19 at 7:00 pm at the Lubbock Community Theatre 3101 35 th Street Lubbock, Texas.

Rehearsals begin 12/1/21 (We will take a break for Christmas and New Year’s)

Performances 1/28/22 – 2/6/22

Audition Information: Come as you are! There will be sides from the script for the audition. Come in clothing and shoes you can move in, since this is a high energy show.

We won’t be doing movement, but we could be doing high energy stuff for our audition. If you are interested in the “Clown” roles, let me know of any special skills or talents you might have.

Synopsis: The 39 Steps is a comedy thriller that centers on the character Richard Hannay, who is on the run from authorities, as well as the all but unknown organization, The 39 Steps. The journey to unveiling this organization leads him to an array of different characters who don’t always have the best of intentions. This fast-paced show is filled with intrigue, romance, and mystery that is bound to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Character Breakdown:
Richard Hannay: male-identifying, any race/ethnicity, 25-40: An upstanding Englishmen who leads a boring life until he finds himself trying to bring down The 39 Steps. Has never been adventurous, so he finds himself caught off guard when he becomes on the run.

Annabella/Pamela/Margaret: female-identifying, any race/ethnicity, 25-35: Plays all the female characters in the show. This includes Annabella who is a spy attempting to bring down The 39 Steps, Pamela who is caught up in Hannay’s adventure, and Margaret who dreams of a life out of the country and in the city.

Clown 1 and Clown 2: any gender, any race/ethnicity, any age: These two characters play every other character in the show including heroes, villains, and even inanimate objects. Must be versatile in order to play distinct characters. Special talents or skills preferred, but not required.
