Saturday Lectures at LHUCA is an informal conversation over the life and work of contemporary artists. It’s a stress-free opportunity to examine the art and ideas that underlie much of the modern art world. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and join the conversation.
Julian Schnabel (born October 26, 1951)
Julian Schnabel is best known for his large-scale paintings that incorporate materials into the canvas surface. Using broken plates, wax, and animal antlers, his compositions often test the limits of what a painting can be. Schnabel was born in New York, but he spent a large portion of his younger life in Brownsville, Texas, and he graduated from the University of Houston. Highly prolific, in addition to his visual art career Schnabel works as a film director making such films as Basquiat (1996) and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007).
