RAISE A GLASS TO GOOD TIMES & GOOD CAUSES.
Oktoberfest by Metro Lubbock Rotary puts the “FUN” in “fundraiser!” This event has excellent German food, exciting contests, a varied silent auction, live polka music, superb decorations, and good fellowship! Oh, there’s also an open bar with local beer and wine!
At the start, guests have the opportunity to win some cash by guessing the number of pretzels in a jar. The winner gains half the pot! Oktoberfest culminates in a competitive Stein Hoisting Contest! Competitors purchase a 20 oz. beer stein and fill it with their favorite beer. As is proper, ladies go first. They compete to see who can hold their stein at shoulder-height the longest. Gentlemen compete shortly after. The male and female victors then go head-to-head for the ultimate prize: an ornate stein from Germany!
Metro Rotarians collect unique and valuable items throughout the year to feature at the Oktoberfest Silent Auction. Prizes have ranged from the mega-popular Instant Pot pressure cooker to autographed sports paraphernalia to home-baked pies to a beaded throw cushion from Thailand to gift certificates and more! What will we have at our next Oktoberfest? You’ll have to buy a ticket to see!
Best of all, Oktoberfest raised almost $20,000 for local causes over the past couple years! $7,500 has gone to Lubbock Meals on Wheels, and the rest has supported Metro Rotary’s other charitable projects.
